I have an 03 OB limited sedan. I am looking to install a high beam flasher but I am not sure which to get. There are kits for ground side switched or positive side switched. which is the outback? thanks

I know plenty of firefighters, ambulance people and coppers in NYS.

coppers in NYS do not like local firefighters to use them. I know two individuals that got written warnings to remove them, calling them "headlight strobes".

I have been told by cops and such they use to be great to get people out of the way of a marked petrol car though. I think they are kind of getting lumped in with the fake cop issue.

so in summation, Forget about it.

I would recommend you spend your money on a blue light like the coppers want you to have and thats it. (maybe buy it used, ...I know 3 fire chiefs that got whole red bars used for their personal pickups, ...just used stuff from 4 year old police cars, and then they just popped one rear section of the red lens off and put in a blue section)

This vs. spending hundreds  or thousands  on new stuff.

Thanks very much for looking out for me, but my circumstances are a little different.

1) Firefighters here are allowed to have white/clear in addition to our blues, which high beams fall under.
2) I'm concurrently employed by the sheriff's dept. I've run it by my co-workers, and the consensus is that they are fine as long as our cars aren't better lit then the patrol cars lol
3) written warnings do not exist in the state of NY. It's either a verbal warning or a summons. There's no in between.
4) I just need to know whether it's ground side switched or positive side switched please.

Thanks a lot. The thought is very much appreciated

wig wags

I installed wig wag module from J C whitney in the mid 90s on my Dodge Aires. I used to travel 20 miles on I-84 between an out patient clinic to the hospital when I did night call. The lights came in handy when old farts were cruising in the left lane too slow. The horn was useless but those lights did work wonders. As a joke I used them on an administrator who told our safety officers to scold me. I looked up the VTL (vehicle traffic laws) in NYS. There are laws on color and number of additional lights that can be added but nothing about making your existing lights flash (wig-wag).
Now with leds & strobes you can install them in the housing unit by making a 3/8 " hole vs the standard bulb.
My old module was spliced into the sealed ligh/low beam high beam wire, + power wire directly to the battery and neg ground to the dash ground source. I mounted the switch near the console.
The lights also worked great in funeral and wedding processions too!
A good source is autolumination.com for strobes and other bulbs etc. I have 100watt H-7 low beam with the ceramic female plug with good boost in light. I used the IR 911 ,Dan Stern bulbs for increased high beam output too.

I typed written warning for our universe wide viewers, because there was other court action that was too much information to type out. (each involving off-duty drunkenness and idiocy, that would make all vol. firefighters look bad).

glad you work for / with the coppers.

and not one of these unfortunate types dreaming of a $2000 full blue bar for their $1000 ford ranger rust bucket (as a means of lowering panties):

Yea I feel you. We all know exactly who "those guys" are. All of the ones who want to be superheroes on every call. My final setup in my subie will be a flip down visor light, wig-wag high beams, and tail light strobes and/or a rear deck light. The only reason I would have rear facing lights is because If i'm on the side of one of the many busy roads here, I don't want to get hit. Ideally I would like for people to not know I'm a first responder unless they have to. Wig-Wags, Tail strobes and the visor light are all invisible until I use them. The Rear deck light would be there all the time but it would look like a high mount tail light or it would be invisible after I get window tints.

If it looks like a christmas tree, you went too far lol

getting on traffic detail / fire police duty is what saves everyone else on the scene,...but it is a great opportunity to get your body run over or your car smacked.

when you are parked nothing beats a plain old kojak style blue light plugged into a small jumper pack, so you can shut down and not waste gas. 360 degrees is really needed (like temporarily stuck to a screw or a platform on the subaru cross bar), and a cheap old style spinner does the trick. Particularly if you are stuck on a intersection.

White, Red vs. Blue, (white or red strobes I think confuse drunks, ...US DOT probably has a paper on that, which I am not going to dig up).
people know what it is and what blue means, even drunks see the blue and they put their foot on the brake and avoid hitting you.

Vs. what happened to those NYS troopers years ago which caused them to get the rear facing blue lens, ...only after 2 or 3 got rear ended in a few months.
I remember their union did not want its members to pull people over where another car could line up behind the red lights until the lenses were changed,...and they got the fire extinguisher mounted on the gas tank. (I guess it would still suck to get rear ended on the thruway at 70mph, but it was a start for lower speed crashes,...too bad the technology did not get into regular cars).

and this is as great as things can be, no warning signs out, but at least a DOT truck showed up, so it can get rear ended and not some poor guy in a subaru.
