I just purchased my Outback Wilderness at the beginning of the month I love it and I am dialing in on the things that I think would be better for my lifestyle.
One thing I saw in previous releases/trims was storage compartments under the trunk panels. I wish this was a feature of the wilderness but since it’s not I made my own.
I utilized the original foam to maintain the proper spacing and to register the trunk panels
Into place.
First step was a initial fitting with cardboard cut to the size of the original foam. After I added material to fill the difference. Once I had a good fit I went ahead and cut the template out of Hard board.
Next I stuck the fabric too the hardboard panels with a spray glue I had laying around. I chose to use headliner from Joann’s fabrics. afterwards I realized I should have used wool or felt something that Velcro grabs to better than headliner.
Once the fabric was all glued into place and holding I fit up the cut foam sections to the panels and hot glued the foam with a high temp automotive glue.
That was pretty much it they were ready I’m still going to clean up the cuts make it look more professional but that’s for another time I was cooking out there in the sun this weekend.
Example of the space I was able to utilize. Now I can store nearly all the contents of this roadside safety kit in this space.
